The site of Victory Elementary School is one with a deep and rich academic history in the city of Portsmouth. Today, VES is one of Portsmouth’s highest performing elementary schools. In 2013, VES was named a Virginia Title I Distinguished school for meeting all state and federal accountability requirements for reading and mathematics. VES continues fostering a growing portfolio of quality educational resources for children in our community.
Servicing more than 500 students in grades kindergarten through sixth in our community, investment begins the minute you step onto the grounds at VES. A welcoming and inviting staff and faculty are dedicated to the success of every child we serve. Academic success within Virginia’s Standards of Learning is paramount as we work collectively to ensure each child is safe, healthy, supported, engaged, and challenged. In all we do, Victory is dedicated to our mission:
Our Victory Elementary family is dedicated to educating and producing lifelong thinkers in a safe environment; students become productive citizens in our 21st-century global communities through the use of relevant rigor, technology and differentiated instruction; we ensure shared accountability, integrity, and collaboration where learning is exciting and all are respected, valued, and involved.
Learners at Victory have access to the latest technology, exemplary arts instruction, and a comprehensive library. Regular Education, Gifted & Talented, and Special Education inclusion are provided to our diverse learners. Home to the Portsmouth Public Schools’ STARBASE Victory, VES fourth through sixth grade students have direct access to an innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Pathways Program. Teachers foster the love of reading in children through exemplary use of Accelerated Reader and best classroom practices. Standards Based Educational Field Trips are also a central element in our education process.
Victory is proud to host a diverse learning community from across the country-- many of our students have parent(s) and/or guardian(s) serving as members of the US Armed Forces. While attending to the academic needs of these students, programs are available to military families that also support the social and emotional aspects military children face.
All students are welcome to participate in the many extra curricular activities offered at Victory Elementary. Students have opportunities to participate in many school sponsored activities: Math Challenge, History Bowl, CROME, The Great Computer Challenge, Odyssey of the Mind, and All City Choir. Other activities include: Student Council Association, Book Club, and Victory’s Men of Valor.
The Victory Parent-Teacher Association is another great opportunity for families to become active and involved in all that VES has to offer.
Welcome to the family!
